Curriculum vitae
Heinrich Honsell was born in Munich on July 28th , 1942. He is German and
Austrian citizen.
He is Professor emeritus for Swiss and European Private Law at the Law Faculty
of the University of Zurich, Honorary Professor for Trade- and Company Law
at the Law Faculty of the University of Salzburg.
His practice and academic work focuses on Private Law, Company Law, Insurance
Law, International Arbitration, Comparative Law, Roman Legal History and Legal
Methodology.
Heinrich Honsell received his legal education in Germany, and qualified as
a professor at the University of Munich in 1972. From 1972 to 1977 Honsell
was Professor at the University of Bielefeld (Germany), from 1977 to 1989
at the University of Salzburg and from 1989 to 2007 at the Law Faculty of
the University of Zürich. Many other Universities offered him a chair
so as Wien, Munich, Salzburg, Bern, Tübingen, Erlangen, Würzburg.
He was chairman of the German Zivilrechtslehrervereinigung, the main association
of German speaking law professors and is a correspondent member of the Austrian
Academy of Sciences, Vienna.
He has published about twenty books and more than hundred articles on German,
Austrian, Swiss and European Law, Roman Legal History, Comparative Law and
Legal Methodes.
